Our recent projects.
From Start Up to Growth to Start Over and In Between!
Vision and Mission Revisit.
We worked with a local non-profit just emerging from their start up phase and ready to revisit their promise and their plan. As many start ups, the initial vision and mission were the dream and the stake in the ground of the founder and a small group of advisors. But, with a few years under their belt, and several new board members, this organization felt disoriented and scattered in their efforts. BUT they had learned a lot - they had a better idea where and how they could make a difference because they had been doing it. They didn’t know they knew that, but they did!
We created a process for the leaders and the board to individually and collectively reflect, discuss, and revise the big questions behind their Vision - How will the world be different when we succeed? and Mission - Who do we serve? What problem are we attempting to solve? What service(s) do we provide? How do we provide our service(s)? With this deep board work, this organization has a fresh and on point Vision and Mission Statement AND a board that is engaged, excited, and all rallying around a united effort.
A Vision and Mission Revisit involves key leaders and each member of the Board of Directors. We structure the process around individual pre-work questionnaire and interviews, a full day or 2 half day Board working sessions, time to debrief and review, and a closing session to finalize.
Capital Campaigns.
Plan It. Organize It. Help You Do It.
We completed a 7 figure capital campaign to build a training center and create an endowment for its maintenance. This human services non-profit needed an experienced leader and advisor to work with their staff, board, and community volunteers on their first ever capital raising initiative.
We worked with another human services non-profit organization to organize their $10+ million capital campaign, from setting goals to establishing scope to advising them on organization to developing a consultant selection process. This organization just needed a lift to get started - a basic how to on capital campaigns. We worked with their director and board to find an experienced, local consultant who could both guide their campaign planning and execution, and also had the community connections to open the doors they needed to succeed. This approach was a win-win-win!
Start Up Organization and Support.
We helped an established company imagine, create, and implement a 501(c)3 not-for-profit “arm” of their company to serve the research and philanthropic needs of their community. From developing the mission and purpose, to convening the right legal and accounting advisors to recruiting and onboarding their board members, we served as advisor and doer to get this organization established and going. We most recently launched their website on Square Space, including a donor interface, blog, and contact gathering functionality. This allows the organization to efficiently communicate with their community, share new research, and raise funds in a timely way.
Strategic Planning for the turnaround.
We stepped in to advise and support the Board of an organization “on the brink”. A great organization that had lost its focus and its community support. This work included advising the board leadership through the tough decisions to give the organization the time it needed to stabilize and rebuild - from finding short term financial support to restructuring programs and resources to giving the board a road map.
Once stabilized, we drove the creation of a new, more relevant and sustainable 5-7 year strategic plan. This plan included a current study of the “competitive environment”, updated research on their client needs and newest treatment approaches, new approach and structure for volunteers, fundraising, and operational design - soup to nuts.
This organization has grown 10+% per year since the new strategic plan was implemented and enjoys a steady and reliable annual fund to support its work.
